Screen Defect

Why is my phone screen blue tint

About 5 seconds, full screen, then one question.
True white · blue

Left half is true white, right half is the cast people describe. Which one does your screen look like on the full-screen white test?

Plain colours, full screen:

Fixable

A phone screen that has turned blue — the whole screen, not a patch — is one of four things, in order of likelihood: a colour setting (Eye comfort / Night Light / a colour filter under Accessibility / a wallpaper-based theme), an OLED panel ageing or damaged so its colour balance has drifted (a cast that is worse at low brightness), a lifted display connector after a drop, or liquid in the display.

Test it now

Full-screen white. If white looks blue, take a screenshot and open it on another device: a tint that is in the screenshot is software. Restart into Safe Mode: a tint that disappears is an app or setting. Turn the brightness to minimum and back — an OLED panel tint is worst at low brightness.

What it is

A phone screen that has turned blue — the whole screen, not a patch — is one of four things, in order of likelihood: a colour setting (Eye comfort / Night Light / a colour filter under Accessibility / a wallpaper-based theme), an OLED panel ageing or damaged so its colour balance has drifted (a cast that is worse at low brightness), a lifted display connector after a drop, or liquid in the display. Software tints vanish in Safe Mode or with the filter off; panel tints do not.

Can it be fixed?

Setting or app: yes, free. Panel ageing: no, and it slowly worsens; a new display is the fix. Lifted connector: sometimes, a repair shop can re-seat the flex. Liquid: only if it dries out — leave it off and dry for two days first.

What to do

  1. Turn off Eye comfort / Night Light / colour filters; check Accessibility → colour correction.
  2. Restart in Safe Mode; if the tint is gone, an app or theme did it.
  3. Minimum brightness: worse = panel ageing.
  4. Dropped recently: flex re-seat quote before a display.

What a repair costs

United States$80–200 for a display on most Android phones; $200–380 at Apple for an iPhone screen out of warranty ($29–99 with AppleCare+)
India₹2,000–6,000 for a display on budget and mid-range Android phones at an independent shop, ₹6,000–20,000 for flagship OLED screens at the brand service centre; iPhone screens ₹12,000–35,000 at Apple-authorised service

Typical ranges from repair-shop and manufacturer price lists, 2026-09-06. Get two quotes; prices vary by model and city.

Warranty

Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
