What it is

A laptop that is "glitching" — the image tears, blocks of the screen repeat, colours flash, windows smear — is the graphics chip or its driver far more often than the screen. Artefacts that also show in a screenshot or on an external monitor are graphics. Flicker or flashing that changes with the lid angle is the display cable. A screen that corrupts only when the laptop is hot is a failing graphics chip.

Can it be fixed?

Driver: yes — clean reinstall. Cable: small repair. Failing GPU: a motherboard, and that decides whether the laptop is worth it.

Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered.
