White dots in laptop screen
White dots that show on dark screens and vanish on white are almost always in the backlight, not the pixels: a tiny reflector dot inside the backlight has come unglued and is bouncing light straight at you.

Open the full-screen test on black. Backlight dots glow softly, round or oval, usually 1–3 mm. Stuck pixels are a single sharp point, exactly one pixel wide, and stay lit on white too.
What it is
White dots that show on dark screens and vanish on white are almost always in the backlight, not the pixels: a tiny reflector dot inside the backlight has come unglued and is bouncing light straight at you. Common on Lenovo, HP and Dell laptops after a few years, and after the lid has been pressed or the laptop carried in a tight bag. A white dot that stays on every colour including black is a stuck pixel (bright pixel).
Can it be fixed?
A stuck pixel: sometimes, with the pixel fixer on the test page (flashing colours over it for 10–20 minutes). Backlight dots: yes, but by a repair shop — they open the panel and re-glue the loose reflector. It is a cheap job in most cities; the risk is opening a thin panel, so use someone who has done it before.
What to do
- On the black test, count the dots and note whether they move when you press very gently beside them (backlight dots often shift; pixels never do).
- For a single sharp dot, run the pixel fixer for 15 minutes.
- For soft glowing dots, a repair shop can re-seat the reflectors — ask for a quote for "backlight reflector repair", not a panel replacement.
- Under warranty, report it as a display fault before the count grows.

Warranty
Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
