Not fixable — new panel

"Screen bleeding" on a phone means one of two things.

Test it now

Full-screen black at full brightness in a dark room: bleed glows at the edges. A dark blot on white that has grown since yesterday: a cracked panel — photograph it daily.

What it is

"Screen bleeding" on a phone means one of two things. On an LCD phone, a black ink-like blot spreading from a corner or a crack is the liquid crystal escaping from a broken panel; it grows over days and it kills the touch layer as it goes. On an OLED phone the same look is a dead area of the organic layer after impact. Both are physical damage. Light glow at the edges on a dark screen (LCD only) is backlight bleed, a manufacturing quirk, not damage.

Can it be fixed?

Ink-blot spreading: no, and it will get worse — new display, and do it before the touch layer fails. Edge glow: it is not a fault.

What to do

  1. Black, full brightness, dark room.
  2. Edge glow only: not damage; lower the brightness.
  3. Dark blot on white that grows: cracked panel — display quote now.
  4. In warranty and no impact: severe bleed is sometimes replaced; ask.

What a repair costs

United States$80–200 for a display on most Android phones; $200–380 at Apple for an iPhone screen out of warranty ($29–99 with AppleCare+)
India₹2,000–6,000 for a display on budget and mid-range Android phones at an independent shop, ₹6,000–20,000 for flagship OLED screens at the brand service centre; iPhone screens ₹12,000–35,000 at Apple-authorised service

Typical ranges from repair-shop and manufacturer price lists, 2026-09-06. Get two quotes; prices vary by model and city.

Warranty

Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
