Note 8 screen flickering
A phone screen that flickers or flashes is nearly always one of three things: the adaptive brightness or the OLED's low-brightness dimming (PWM) fighting with a setting, a display driver bug after an update, or a loose display connector after a drop.
Test it now
Turn off adaptive brightness and set brightness to 100%; if the flicker stops, it was low-brightness dimming. Restart into Safe Mode. Record the screen: flicker in the recording is software. Press gently at the edges: flicker under light pressure is the connector.

Flicker that also happens in Safe Mode and at every brightness is the display. The Galaxy Note 8 AMOLED is an early burn-in offender: the navigation bar and keyboard ghost within a couple of years of heavy use. Retention clears; burn-in does not.

Settings and software: yes, free. Loose connector: often, a shop re-seats it. Panel: no — new display.

- Adaptive brightness off, brightness 100%.
- Safe Mode; screen recording.
- Update the phone; if it started after an update, wait for the next.

Warranty
Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
