Moisture in iPhone screen
Moisture inside an iPhone screen shows as a dark cloud on white, a fog under the glass, or a bright halo at one edge on black, and it shifts over hours.
Test it now
Full-screen white for the cloud, black for the halo. Photograph it, then check again in six hours: moisture moves and shrinks as it dries; damage does not. Do not charge the iPhone while there is any sign of moisture.
What it is
Moisture inside an iPhone screen shows as a dark cloud on white, a fog under the glass, or a bright halo at one edge on black, and it shifts over hours. It got in at the seam — a lifted screen after a drop, an old adhesive gasket, a swim, a shower, a rainy pocket. Water-resistant iPhones are rated for fresh water when new; the seal ages, and any repaired iPhone has lost it.
Can it be fixed?
Often, if it dries before it corrodes: power off, do not charge, leave it in a warm dry place with the port facing down for 48 hours (rice does nothing useful; silica gel or a warm airing cupboard does). A cloud that never clears has left mineral marks between the layers, and that needs a new display.
What to do
- Power off now; no charging.
- Warm, dry, port down, 48 hours; silica gel if you have it.
- White and black test after 48 hours.
- Clear = fine; still there = display quote, and expect the touch layer to have suffered too.
What a repair costs
| United States | $80–200 for a display on most Android phones; $200–380 at Apple for an iPhone screen out of warranty ($29–99 with AppleCare+) |
|---|---|
| India | ₹2,000–6,000 for a display on budget and mid-range Android phones at an independent shop, ₹6,000–20,000 for flagship OLED screens at the brand service centre; iPhone screens ₹12,000–35,000 at Apple-authorised service |

Warranty
Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
