Screen Defect

MacBook Pro orange screen

About 5 seconds, full screen, then one question.
True white · orange

Left half is true white, right half is the cast people describe. Which one does your screen look like on the full-screen white test?

Plain colours, full screen:

Fixable

A MacBook screen that has gone orange all over is the signal or the panel's colour balance, and it is usually the signal.

Test it now

Full-screen white. If white looks orange, take a screenshot and open it on another device: a tint that is in the screenshot is software. Plug in an external monitor: a tint that appears there too is the graphics driver, not the screen. Tilt the lid: a tint that changes is the cable.

What it is

A MacBook screen that has gone orange all over is the signal or the panel's colour balance, and it is usually the signal. Night Light / Eye comfort / a colour filter, a wrong colour profile, or a graphics driver fault tint the whole image; a display cable that has lost one of its colour channels tints it too (yellow and orange = the blue channel is weak, or Night Light); the panel itself tints only when its backlight LEDs age (a warm yellow) or its polariser degrades.

Can it be fixed?

Settings, profile, driver: yes, free — turn off Night Light / colour filters, reset the colour profile, reinstall the graphics driver. Cable: yes, a small repair. Backlight or polariser ageing: no — new panel, or live with it.

What to do

  1. Night Light off, colour filter off, colour profile reset to default.
  2. Screenshot and external monitor: tint on both = graphics driver; reinstall it.
  3. Lid tilt changes it: cable — small repair.
  4. None of those: panel; decide between a panel and a new MacBook.

What a repair costs

United States$450–800 at Apple out of warranty (Air at the low end, 14"/16" Pro at the high end); $300–500 at an independent repairer
India₹35,000–70,000 at Apple-authorised service; ₹15,000–30,000 at an independent repairer

Typical ranges from repair-shop and manufacturer price lists, 2026-09-06. Get two quotes; prices vary by model and city.

Warranty

Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
