Screen Defect

Horizontal lines on Oppo phone screen

About 7 seconds, full screen, then one question.

A line pattern shows a missing or extra row instantly; the colour tiles below show whether it is on every colour.

Plain colours, full screen:

Depends — see test

Horizontal lines on a Oppo screen are almost always the display itself: the flex connector between the panel and the board has lifted (often after a drop or a swollen battery pushing from behind), or a row or column driver on the panel has failed.

Test it now

Full-screen white, then black, then each colour. A panel line is fixed and identical on all of them. Take a screenshot: if the line is in the screenshot, it is software or the graphics chip. Press gently around the edge of the screen: a line that flickers under light pressure is the flex connector.

What it is

Horizontal lines on a Oppo screen are almost always the display itself: the flex connector between the panel and the board has lifted (often after a drop or a swollen battery pushing from behind), or a row or column driver on the panel has failed. A single thin vertical line in one colour is the classic OLED panel fault. Lines that only appear in one app, or that flicker with the screen brightness, are software or the display driver, and those are fixable in settings. Oppo and Realme AMOLED phones (F-series, Reno) develop horizontal lines when the display flex under the panel lifts; Oppo service replaces the full display assembly.

Can it be fixed?

Software or driver: yes, free. Lifted flex connector: sometimes, a repair shop can re-seat or replace the flex for a fraction of a display. Panel driver or a dead column: no — new display assembly. A line that appeared after a drop is accidental damage and not a warranty fault.

What to do

  1. Screenshot first — if the line is in it, update the phone and check developer display settings.
  2. Full-screen colours: fixed on all = panel or flex.
  3. Gentle pressure at the edge: flickers = flex; quote for a flex re-seat before a display.
  4. No change: display assembly quote; check warranty if there was no drop.

What a repair costs

United States$80–200 for a display on most Android phones; $200–380 at Apple for an iPhone screen out of warranty ($29–99 with AppleCare+)
India₹2,000–6,000 for a display on budget and mid-range Android phones at an independent shop, ₹6,000–20,000 for flagship OLED screens at the brand service centre; iPhone screens ₹12,000–35,000 at Apple-authorised service

Typical ranges from repair-shop and manufacturer price lists, 2026-09-06. Get two quotes; prices vary by model and city.

Warranty

Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
