Green dotss on a laptop screen are single green sub-pixels stuck on, or a small area where pressure has damaged the OLED layer.

Test it now

Full-screen white first — a coloured patch stands out on white. Then grey and black: pixel and OLED damage vanishes on black, surface marks and rainbow rings do not. Press very gently beside (not on) the mark: if it shifts, it is between layers, not in the panel.

What it is

Green dotss on a laptop screen are single green sub-pixels stuck on, or a small area where pressure has damaged the OLED layer. A scatter of green dots across the whole screen that also appears in a screenshot is the graphics chip, not the screen.

Can it be fixed?

Stuck green pixels: often — pixel fixer, 10–20 minutes. Pressure damage: no. Graphics-chip dots: yes, driver update or a cooler machine.

What to do

  1. White, grey, black in full screen; note which colours show it.
  2. Press gently beside the mark — if it moves, it is layers or a protector, not the panel.
  3. Coloured single dots: pixel fixer for 10–20 minutes.
  4. A patch that stays: photograph it, get a display quote, and keep the laptop cooler and out of tight pockets.

Warranty

Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
