Pink screen
Left half is true white, right half is the cast people describe. Which one does your screen look like on the full-screen white test?
Plain colours, full screen:
A screen screen that has gone pink all over is the signal or the panel's colour balance, and it is usually the signal.
Test it now
Full-screen white. If white looks pink, take a screenshot and open it on another device: a tint that is in the screenshot is software. Plug in an external monitor: a tint that appears there too is the graphics driver, not the screen. Tilt the lid: a tint that changes is the cable.
What it is
A screen screen that has gone pink all over is the signal or the panel's colour balance, and it is usually the signal. Night Light / Eye comfort / a colour filter, a wrong colour profile, or a graphics driver fault tint the whole image; a display cable that has lost one of its colour channels tints it too (pink and purple = the green channel is missing); the panel itself tints only when its backlight LEDs age (a warm yellow) or its polariser degrades.
Can it be fixed?
Settings, profile, driver: yes, free — turn off Night Light / colour filters, reset the colour profile, reinstall the graphics driver. Cable: yes, a small repair. Backlight or polariser ageing: no — new panel, or live with it.
What to do
- Night Light off, colour filter off, colour profile reset to default.
- Screenshot and external monitor: tint on both = graphics driver; reinstall it.
- Lid tilt changes it: cable — small repair.
- None of those: panel; decide between a panel and a new screen.
What a repair costs
| United States | Phone display $80–380; laptop panel $100–300; monitor panel from $150 (often more than a new monitor) |
|---|---|
| India | Phone display ₹2,000–20,000; laptop panel ₹3,000–15,000; monitor panel ₹4,000–10,000 (a new monitor is often the better buy) |

Warranty
Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
Pink means one colour channel has gone missing
A screen shows every colour by mixing red, green and blue. Pink — or magenta — is what you get when green drops out and red and blue remain. That single fact does most of the diagnosis for you: something in the chain that carries the green channel has failed, and the question is only where.
The chain is short: the graphics chip, the cable, the connector, the panel’s driver, the panel. Test them in that order because the cheap ones come first.
The order to test
1. Reseat and swap the video cable. A bent pin or a broken conductor in an HDMI or DisplayPort cable takes out one channel and produces exactly this. On a desktop this is the single most likely cause and the cheapest to eliminate.
2. Try a different port, at both ends.
3. Check colour settings. The monitor’s own colour temperature or picture mode, the operating system’s colour profile, and any night-light or blue-light filter can all shift the whole picture. A profile that has become corrupted is a real and common cause on Windows.
4. Update or roll back the graphics driver, if the tint only appears after the operating system loads.
5. Does it survive the BIOS? If the manufacturer’s logo at power-on is already pink, no software is going to help.
6. Does it survive an external screen? On a laptop, a clean external picture means the laptop panel or its cable; a pink external picture means the graphics chip.
On a phone
A pink phone screen behaves differently because there is no cable to swap. Restart first — a surprising number are a temporary software fault. Then check whether it appeared after a drop, after the phone got wet, or after it got very hot, because all three damage the display connector.
A pink tint that spreads from an edge or a corner and grows over days is a failing OLED panel or a damaged connector, and it needs a display replacement. A pink cast across the whole screen that appeared suddenly with no incident is worth a warranty claim: several makers have replaced panels for exactly this.
Pink patches rather than a pink screen
A pink or magenta patch, rather than an all-over tint, is usually not a colour-channel fault at all. On an LCD it is often heat damage to the layers behind the panel; on an OLED it can be early burn-in or a pressure mark. Those are permanent and are assessed as damage rather than as a colour fault.
What it costs
If the cause is a cable, a setting or a driver, nothing. If the panel or its connector has failed: on a laptop, a display cable is cheap and a panel is a commodity part; on a monitor, a panel replacement is usually more than a new monitor; on a phone, display and digitiser replace as one unit.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my screen pink?
Pink is what you see when the green channel drops out and red and blue remain. On a desktop it is most often the video cable or a colour setting. Reseat and swap the cable first, then check the monitor’s colour mode, the operating system colour profile and any night-light filter.
How do I fix a pink screen on my laptop?
Restart, then check whether the tint is already there on the manufacturer logo before the operating system loads. If it is, connect an external monitor: a clean external picture means the laptop panel or its cable, a pink one means the graphics chip. If the tint only appears in the operating system, reset the colour profile and update the graphics driver.
Why did my phone screen turn pink?
Usually a failing OLED panel or a damaged display connector, often after a drop, moisture or heat. Restart first to rule out a software fault. A pink area that spreads over days needs a display replacement. If it appeared with no incident and the phone is in warranty, claim it.
Is a pink screen fixable?
Often yes and often free — cable, port, colour profile or driver. If the tint survives the BIOS screen and an external monitor is clean, the panel or its connector has failed and needs replacing.
