Laptop screen flickering
Flicker has more software causes than hardware ones.

Full-screen grey at 100% brightness, then at 30%. Flicker only at 30% is PWM dimming. Then the external monitor: flicker there too means the graphics driver, not the screen.
What it is
Flicker has more software causes than hardware ones. A screen that flickers at low brightness is the backlight's dimming (PWM) — normal on many panels, and fixed by raising brightness. Flicker that started after an update is the graphics driver or a refresh-rate change. Flicker that changes with the lid angle is the display cable. Flicker with lines or colour tints is the panel or its connector.
Can it be fixed?
Usually yes without a repair: set the refresh rate to the panel's native value (60 or the higher one, not "dynamic"), update or roll back the graphics driver, turn off adaptive brightness, and on Windows check Task Manager — if Task Manager itself does not flicker, an app or driver is the cause. Cable flicker needs a repair; panel flicker needs a new panel.

- Brightness test for PWM.
- External monitor test.
- Refresh rate to native; driver update or roll back; adaptive brightness off.
- Lid-tilt test; if that is it, cable repair.

Warranty
Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
