Bubbles inside an LCD screen — not under a protector, but under the glass — are the optical adhesive between the cover glass and the panel letting go, or air trapped after a repair that replaced the glass without re-laminating properly.

Test it now

Press gently beside a bubble: no movement = laminated in. Full-screen white shows the outline; black shows almost nothing, which confirms it is between glass and panel rather than in the panel.

What it is

Bubbles inside an LCD screen — not under a protector, but under the glass — are the optical adhesive between the cover glass and the panel letting go, or air trapped after a repair that replaced the glass without re-laminating properly. They show as round or oval lighter patches on white with a faint edge, and they do not move. Bubbles that shift when pressed are under a protector.

Can it be fixed?

Sometimes. A repair shop with a laminating machine can separate the glass and re-laminate, which costs less than a display; a bubble from a previous cheap repair is exactly that job done badly. A bubble on an untouched screen is a factory adhesive fault — claim it in warranty.

What to do

  1. Press beside it; confirm it does not move.
  2. Photograph on white.
  3. In warranty, never repaired: claim it.
  4. Out of warranty: re-lamination quote versus a display.

Warranty

Most makers replace a panel under warranty for physical panel faults that are not accidental damage; pressure marks, cracks and liquid damage are treated as accidental and are not covered. For dead pixels, each brand has a threshold (typically 3–5 bright or 5–8 dark pixels on a laptop; Dell's premium-panel guarantee replaces at one bright pixel).
